The Majid Al Futtaim development group has officially announced the appointment of a main contractor for the construction of the Distrikt residential cluster as part of its flagship Ghaf Woods project. The $190.6 million contract was awarded to Al Sahel Contracting, part of the renowned Al Nabooda Group. The partner was selected following a tender process, in which technical expertise and experience in delivering major projects in the UAE were the deciding factors.
Work on the construction site began on 13 April 2026. The current phase involves the construction of residential buildings and associated infrastructure in the Wadi Al Safa 4 area. According to Ahmed El Shami, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Properties, the signing of this agreement is a crucial step in implementing the strategy to create a unique residential environment focused on the environment and the well-being of residents.
Community features
Ghaf Woods stands out from typical Dubai developments with its ‘life in the forest’ concept. The 738,000-square-metre project involves:
- Planting over 35,000 trees, including endemic Ghaf trees.
- Reducing air temperature by 5°C compared to neighbouring areas.
- Creating a ‘green lung’ that provides 20% cleaner air.
- A complete absence of surface-level transport — car parks and roads are located underground.
Location: the project is situated next to Global Village, between Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road. The handover of the first developments is scheduled for the period from 2027 to 2031.
